Course Overview

This is a live virtual training session in the morning on both days with interaction between trainer and participants. Participants must be on an individual computer and have access to internet, a camera, microphone and access to Zoom, YouTube and Surveyplanet (links will be sent by chat during Zoom session). A Zoom link and a digital manual for this session will be emailed approximately one week prior to the session.

Participants will receive an overview of system responsibilities set out at the federal, provincial and municipal levels for drinking water quality compliance. This session will focus on monitoring requirements in Ontario, and setting goals based on outcomes.

Sampling/sample handling and notification of adverse results will be discussed in detail. The interpretation of test results will be examined in order to meet regulated parameters and establish targets that go beyond the regulations.

Applicable sections of the Drinking Water Quality Management Standard (DWQMS) and applicable regulations will be reviewed in support of establishing best practices for corrective action and continuous improvement.

Target Audience

This course is designed for experienced distribution and treatment operators with some degree of knowledge of Ontario drinking water regulations.

Course Trainer:

  Janine deBoer

Janine has over 20 years working in the water industry and holds a Water Treatment 4 and Water Distribution and Supply 3 certificate. She is currently the Integrated Management System Coordinator for Durham Region. In this role she oversees implementing and maintaining the ISO and DWQMS systems for the Works Department. She is also participating in the implementation of the corporate wide Enterprise Maintenance Management System as a Project Lead. She is a certified internal auditor for ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and DWQMS. Janine has developed and delivered numerous training courses for Durham Region operators. She is a Certified Member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and is part of the Works Emergency Operations Centre for Durham Region. Janine is a member of Ontario Water and Wastewater Agency Response Network Leadership Team and is a Representative of the Standards Council of Canada for ISO TC 224 Service Activities Relating to Drinking Water Supply Systems and Wastewater Systems.
