Ontario Regulation for the Certification of Drinking Water Operators and Water Quality Analyst (O. Reg. 128/04) requires drinking water operators and water quality analysts to take a mandatory Ministry developed training course as a condition of certificate renewal.
Effective January 1, 2018, the "Safe Drinking Water Operator Essentials" course replaced the course "Diligence in Drinking Water Operations" as the mandatory renewal course. This new course has been developed by the Walkerton Clean Water Centre for, and with the support of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change and the Advisory Committee.
The Safe Drinking Water Operator Essentials classroom course is available in multiple locations across the province and will also be available by correspondence. On behalf of the Ministry, the Walkerton Clean Water Centre manages the delivery of the certificate renewal course, by coordinating training sessions and processing registrations.
